Green Cleaning 101

Making simple cleaning supplies yourself reduces waste, plastic, monthly spending, and, most importantly, exposure to toxic and hormone-altering chemicals. You don’t have to commit to replacing all of your cleaning supplies. Start with a few substitutions to see which ones you like and have the tolerance to make on a regular basis. I suggest starting with 3 easy sprays: counter, bathroom, and glass to replace your Mrs. Meyers, Lysol, Fantastic, Tilex, Windex, and bleach products. You don’t have to toss the Tilex and bleach products but rarely does anyone need these on a regular basis. Save those for deep cleans and when you do, wear a mask! We have lots of those around these days.

Purchase the supplies and ingredients below and get your label maker ready! Make a label of the recipe and stick it on the bottle or print and laminate this and leave it under the sink.

Supplies:                                                                         

1 clear 16 ounce glass spray bottle

1 amber 16 ounce glass spray bottle

1 blue 16 ounce glass spray bottle

(A 3-pack like THIS is perfect)

glass liquid measuring cup

funnel (optional but helpful)

Label maker or stickers to write on (optional but helpful)

Ingredients:

white vinegar

isopropyl alcohol

baking soda 

corn starch

Castile soap (unscented) or doTERRA Abode dishwashing soap

doTERRA essential oils: any citrus, Tea Tree and Purify, On Guard blend or OG cleaner concentrate.

Counter Spray: 

amber glass spray bottle

1 3/4 cup water

1/4 cup white vinegar

40 drops essential oil: citrus, Purify Blend, On Guard Blend 

combine and shake

OR 1 doTERRA Abode Multi-Purpose Surface Cleaner Concentrate, fill the rest of the bottle with water

combine and shake

Glass Cleaner:

clear glass spray bottle 

1 cup white vinegar 

1 cup isopropyl alcohol 

1 tablespoon corn starch

40 drops any citrus (or combination of) essential oils

combine and shake

Bathroom Surfaces Spray:

blue glass 

1 tablespoon baking soda

2 tablespoons Castile soap

2 cups water 

25 drops melaleuca essential oil

15 drops lemon essential oil

combine and shake

Other product suggestions:

Use wool dryer balls with 4-8 drops of oil (lavender, Citrus Bliss…) to replace dryer sheets

On Guard cleaner concentrate (use for all-purpose pray, floors, and spot cleaning directly on stained clothing)
